Last Mile Health
This week, we’re honored to feature Last Mile Health. Last Mile Health is an organization dedicated to providing access to healthcare to residents of Liberia’s last mile; here Liberia’s most remote communities lack access to such care due to distance and poverty. Over the years, the organization, founded by Dr. Raj Panjabi (watch his TED Talk here) has grown from a small team with almost no funding to a major partner to the Liberia Ministry of Health. In 38 clinics across Southeastern Liberia, Last Mile Health has supported and trained community health workers and educators to help manage and prevent the spread of Ebola. The Ebola outbreak, which was brought to a halt in 2016, was a defining moment and testament to the success of the organization. But today, one billion people still lack access to healthcare because they live too far from a health facility. Last Mile Health is more committed than ever to bridging this gap between clinics and remote communities around the world.
